Your friend is your needs answered.

He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving.

And he is your board and fireside.

For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.

When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the “nay” in your own mind, nor do you withhold the “ay”.

And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart;

For without words , in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.

When you part from your friend, you grieve not;

For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.

And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.

For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love.

But a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable caught.

And let your best be for your friend.

If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.

For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?

Seek him always with hours to live.

For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.

And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.

For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

About friendship, an extract from The Prophet by Gibran Khalil Gibran.

Yes, you two were my needs answered. You were the ones I come to for peace; the ones who understood me completely. I didn’t need to explain myself to you for you knew it all before I even spoke. I didn’t need to act as someone else around you for you accepted me as I’m. You understood my pains and walked me through them and my happy moments were all so special because I had you in them.

Yes, what I love most in you is more clear in your absence but I can’t help myself missing you dearly. I miss being able to talk to you about anything without the fear of being gotten wrong; I can’t talk to anyone as I used to talk to you for you were able to understand me more than anyone else. You were always here for me and I do miss having you in my life.

We shared the bad before the good and we indeed had hours to live filled with laughter and pleasures; hours that are life to me.

You were the first thing to come to my mind reading this part of the book and i’m filled with gratitude that our roads intersected. You have left a mark in my life, one that I cherish with all my heart.

Life is simply not the same now that you are gone!

I can’t listen to this piece without remembering you; till we meet my friends!
